Hull City have registered their interest in signing Bayern Munich goalkeeper Alexander Nübel this summer, according to reports from the Daily Mail. The newly promoted Premier League side have made contact regarding a potential permanent transfer for the 29-year-old, who is surplus to requirements at the Allianz Arena.
Nübel has spent the last three seasons on loan at VfB Stuttgart, establishing himself as a regular starter in the Bundesliga. He made 35 appearances in all competitions for Stuttgart during the 2023-24 campaign, keeping nine clean sheets. However, upon his return to Bayern, the club have indicated he does not feature in their long-term plans, opening the door for a permanent departure.
The German international currently has a contract with Bayern Munich that runs until 2029, giving the club a strong negotiating position. While Hull City have expressed their interest, the Daily Mail reports that Nübel is hoping for a more high-profile move. This suggests the player may be seeking a club competing in European competitions, or one with a higher league standing.
Besiktas have also been credited with an interest in Nübel, but Bild reports that the goalkeeper is not keen on a transfer to the Turkish Süper Lig. Nübel is currently with the German national team at the European Championship, serving as third-choice goalkeeper behind Manuel Neuer and Oliver Baumann. He has three senior international caps for Germany.
Nübel initially joined Bayern Munich in 2020 from Schalke 04, seen as the long-term successor to Neuer. However, he has struggled to establish himself as the number one at Bayern, leading to the loan spells at Stuttgart. A move to Hull City would represent a significant shift in his career trajectory, offering him the chance to become a key player in the Premier League. This transfer could provide Hull City with a much-needed boost in quality as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight, solidifying their goalkeeping position and potentially attracting further investment.
