Brighton & Hove Albion have submitted a £30 million bid to Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of defender Luka Vušković, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein. The offer represents an initial approach for the 19-year-old Croatian centre-back, who spent last season on loan at Hamburger SV.
Vušković enjoyed a successful campaign with HSV in the 2. Bundesliga, featuring regularly and impressing with his performances. Despite their interest in retaining his services, Hamburger SV were unable to afford a permanent deal for the player, whose contract with Tottenham extends until 2030. A potential loan extension was considered, but ultimately proved unfeasible.
Ornstein reports that Vušković is keen on a move to the Amex Stadium, citing a strong relationship with Brighton head coach Fabian Hürzeler as a key factor. The German coach recently took charge of the Seagulls, and appears to have quickly identified Vušković as a target to bolster his defensive options. Brighton have already added Marcos Senesi to their squad on a free transfer from Bournemouth, and are also reportedly pursuing Jan Paul van Hecke.
Tottenham are likely to consider Brighton’s offer, but the reported fee of £30 million may be deemed insufficient given Vušković’s potential and long-term contract with the club. The North London side signed Vušković from NK Osijek in August 2023, but he has yet to make a senior appearance for Spurs, spending the entirety of his time with the club on loan.
The transfer would provide Vušković with the opportunity to gain regular Premier League experience, while offering Brighton a promising young defender to add depth to their squad. Should the deal be completed, it would further strengthen Brighton’s defensive options ahead of the new season and potentially allow them to offload other players in that position.
