Juventus midfielder Arthur has entered his seventh pre-season with the club, but finds himself once again considered surplus to requirements, according to reports in Italy. The Brazilian international, who arrived in Turin in 2020 as part of a swap deal involving Miralem Pjanic, has struggled to establish himself as a consistent starter despite signing a lucrative contract.
Arthur’s current deal, originally negotiated under former sporting director Fabio Paratici and later revised by Cristiano Giuntoli, sees him earning a net salary of €5 million per season, placing him among the club’s five highest earners. Despite this, current manager Luciano Spalletti and the Juventus hierarchy view him as not fitting into their plans for the upcoming season. Finding a suitable destination for the player, given his wage demands, is proving difficult.
Since joining Juventus, Arthur has worked under a succession of managers – Andrea Pirlo, Massimiliano Allegri, Thiago Motta, Igor Tudor, and now Spalletti – and has seemingly failed to fully convince any of them of his abilities. He missed a significant portion of his first season due to a physical issue, and subsequent managers have favoured players with different characteristics. His time at the club has been marked by periods of training alone, away from the first team squad.
Recent reports suggest interest from Turkish side Besiktas, currently managed by Vincenzo Italiano, who previously coached Arthur at Fiorentina. A return to Brazil has also been mentioned as a possibility, with Arthur reportedly open to the idea if a suitable offer emerges. His agent, Federico Pastorello, recently met with Juventus officials at the club’s training ground to discuss the player’s future, and a contract termination is also being considered as a potential solution. Juventus are keen to remove Arthur’s salary from their wage bill, and a resolution is anticipated in the coming weeks.
