FC Metz have completed the signing of Idriss Mohamed from Puy FC for a reported fee of around €300,000, the club confirmed. The 22-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Ligue 1 side.
The transfer represents a change in plans for Metz, who had initially targeted Christian Devenish. According to L’Equipe, Devenish had travelled to Metz to undergo a medical examination, but the deal collapsed due to high demands from his current club, AVS of Portugal. This led Metz to quickly pursue Mohamed as an alternative.
Mohamed enjoyed a productive 2023-2024 season in the French National division, making 30 appearances for Puy-en-Velay. He is a Comoros international and recently participated in the Africa Cup of Nations. The midfielder will bolster Metz’s defensive options following the departures of Terry Yegbe and Jean Phillipe-Gbamin.
Metz will be hoping Mohamed can contribute to their continued success in Ligue 1. The club has been active in the transfer market, also recently announcing Robert Pirès as an ambassador and appointing a new coach. The signing of Mohamed adds further depth to their squad as they look to build upon their recent performances. This move provides Mohamed with an opportunity to play at a higher level and further develop his career in a top-flight European league.
