Torino have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Diego Mascardi from Spezia for a fee of €1.6 million plus €200,000 in potential bonuses, with Torino also retaining a 10% sell-on clause, the club confirmed. The 20-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the Serie A side.
Mascardi will be looking to establish himself in Italy’s top flight after making 17 appearances for Spezia in Serie B last season, despite the club’s eventual relegation. He progressed through the youth ranks at Spezia, making his professional debut in the 2025/26 campaign, and also represented Italy at various youth levels from Under-17 to Under-21.
The acquisition of Mascardi indicates Torino are planning for the future in the goalkeeping position, and adds competition to the squad. He was born in Carrara on September 26, 2006, and is considered a promising talent with significant potential.
Meanwhile, Torino goalkeeper Franco Israel underwent successful surgery on his left shoulder in Barcelona, the club announced. The operation was performed by Professor Jordi Ardevol, with Torino’s orthopedic specialist Dr. Corrado Bertolo present. Israel is expected to begin a period of rehabilitation at the Fisio&Lab center in Torino following his discharge from hospital. Israel's future at the club was already uncertain, and Mascardi’s arrival further suggests his time in Turin may be coming to an end.
