Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in signing Cody Gakpo from Liverpool this summer, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. While Gakpo is reportedly open to a move away from Anfield, he is prioritizing a transfer to another club in one of Europe’s top five leagues.
Gakpo joined Liverpool in January 2023 from PSV Eindhoven and has recorded 73 goal involvements in 180 appearances for the club. Despite a strong record, the Dutchman’s form dipped last season, prompting some criticism from supporters. The arrival of new manager Andoni Iraola at Liverpool adds further uncertainty to Gakpo’s future.
Liverpool are currently assessing their squad options and have not yet made a decision regarding Gakpo’s potential exit. The club is also reportedly close to signing Bradley Barcola, which could impact Gakpo’s playing time. Romano stated that the situation “completely depends on what Liverpool want to do,” adding that the club, alongside Iraola, will formulate a plan regarding the winger.
Tottenham’s interest in Gakpo has been ongoing for several weeks, and Romano confirmed that the club “really like the player.” However, any move is contingent on Liverpool’s willingness to allow Gakpo to leave. Fenerbahce have also expressed interest, but Gakpo has indicated a preference for remaining in a top-five European league. Spurs are also pursuing other winger options, including Manchester City’s Savinho, suggesting they may seek to add two players to that position this summer. A potential move for defender Djed Spence to Liverpool has also been linked, indicating possible business between the two clubs.
