Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring Celtic midfielder Arne Engels as a potential replacement for Lucas Bergvall, who is seeking a move away from the club, according to TEAMtalk. Several other Premier League teams, including Nottingham Forest, Fulham, and Sunderland, are also interested in the 22-year-old Belgian.
Crystal Palace retain an interest in Engels, despite previous unsuccessful attempts to agree a deal with Celtic. They continue to monitor the situation and maintain contact with both the player and the Scottish club. Tottenham’s interest stems from Bergvall’s desire to leave following the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, with Forest and Newcastle also reportedly pursuing the Swedish international.
Celtic are currently seeking a transfer fee of around £25 million for Engels, though they may be willing to accept a slightly lower offer to facilitate a deal. The club’s willingness to negotiate reflects Engels’s current contract situation, with only 18 months remaining. The player himself has communicated his desire to leave Celtic to the board, and his representatives are actively seeking opportunities in top-five European leagues.
Engels recently changed representation, moving from the Wasserman agency to DWMA, in an effort to expedite a potential transfer. Interest also extends beyond the Premier League, with clubs like AC Milan, Napoli, Lazio, and Borussia Dortmund also expressing their interest. A departure for Engels is anticipated to become clearer in the coming week as interested parties intensify their pursuit and Celtic look to generate funds for their own signings. Celtic are also considering offers for striker Daizen Maeda as part of a wider player turnover.
Engels has been a regular fixture in the Celtic midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively. His departure would leave a void in the team, but Celtic’s willingness to sell suggests they have identified potential replacements. Tottenham, meanwhile, are assessing their midfield options as they prepare for the upcoming season.
