Tottenham Hotspur are planning to extend the contract of defender Luka Vušković and subsequently loan him back to Hamburger SV for the 2026-27 season, according to reports from The Independent.
The move comes despite recent speculation suggesting Vušković might leave the North London club permanently. The Independent’s sources indicate Tottenham are keen to secure the 19-year-old’s long-term future, potentially with a salary increase, and simultaneously maintain his development with regular first-team football.
Vušković currently has a contract with Tottenham that runs until the summer of 2030, but an extension would likely ward off interest from other European clubs who have been monitoring his progress in the Bundesliga. The Croatian centre-back has impressed since joining HSV, becoming a key figure in their defence.
Tottenham are reportedly aware of Vušković’s desire to continue playing alongside his brother, Mario Vušković, at Hamburger SV. The club intends to leverage this personal connection to facilitate another loan spell, ensuring the player’s continued progression while protecting their investment.
This strategy would allow Tottenham to retain control of a promising young talent and potentially benefit from his increased value in the future. Vušković has established himself as a regular starter for HSV, making 24 appearances this season and demonstrating his potential at a senior level. Securing his future with a new contract and a further season of consistent football could prove beneficial for both the player and the club.
The extended deal and loan arrangement would effectively deter potential suitors, allowing Vušković to continue his development in a familiar environment and potentially push for a first-team place at Tottenham in subsequent seasons.
