Inter are preparing a significant offer for Atalanta wing-back Marco Palestra, according to reports in Italy. The clubs are expected to hold talks imminently regarding a potential transfer, with Inter manager Cristian Chivu identified as a key advocate for the player.
Palestra, who recently returned to Atalanta after a successful loan spell at Cagliari, has reportedly established a strong rapport with several Inter players already within the national team setup. Pio Esposito, having previously played for Inter, has been sharing positive experiences of the club with Palestra, further fueling his interest. Bastoni, Barella, and Dimarco also reportedly welcomed the idea of Palestra joining the Nerazzurri during a recent national team gathering.
Atalanta are no longer expected to outright reject Inter’s advances, a shift in stance compared to previous dealings, such as the sale of Ademola Lookman. While they will not offer a discount, the Bergamo club are open to negotiations based on market value. Palestra is considered their most valuable asset this summer, and his valuation currently ranges between €40 and €50 million.
The transfer is being overseen by Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio and president Beppe Marotta, while Atalanta’s new sporting director Giovanni Giuntoli will represent the Bergamo side. Inter have reportedly ruled out offering Davide Frattesi as part of a potential deal to lower the asking price. Oaktree, Inter’s current ownership, have indicated a willingness to invest a substantial sum in a single marquee signing, potentially allocating a similar amount to Palestra as they did for both Luis Henrique and Diouf last year, who each cost €25 million.
The pursuit of Palestra is also influenced by uncertainty surrounding Denzel Dumfries’ release clause, which is active until mid-July, and the potential sale of another right-sided player, potentially allowing Inter to further fund the deal. The 20-year-old Palestra has quickly established himself as a promising talent in Serie A, and his arrival would provide competition and depth in Inter’s squad.
