Aleksandar Stankovic is back at Inter, having recently been crowned champion of the Belgian Jupiler Pro League and named the league’s best young player, according to reports from Italy. The midfielder returned to Italy and underwent medical tests at the club, followed by discussions with Inter youth coach Cristian Chivu.
Stankovic, the son of former Inter player Dejan Stankovic, left Inter for Club Brugge last July. His successful season in Belgium has prompted Inter to consider activating their repurchase clause. The clause is set at €23 million, meaning Inter’s actual expenditure would be around €13 million, considering he was initially sold for approximately €10 million.
Chivu, who played alongside Dejan Stankovic and coached Aleksandar in 71 youth matches, has previously praised the young player’s potential, stating he has “a great future.” However, Inter are not rushing into a decision, aware of interest from other European clubs. Premier League and Bundesliga teams are reportedly monitoring Stankovic, with Inter valuing him at a minimum of €40 million.
Stankovic’s appeal lies in his versatility as a midfielder, capable of playing as a regista or a mezzala. While the player’s dream is to emulate his father’s success at Inter and play in front of the San Siro crowd, his father Dejan has emphasized the importance of consistent playing time for his son. A potential sale could offer Inter a significant profit, but the club must weigh that against the player’s desire to return and their own long-term plans. The situation remains fluid, with the player’s preference also a key factor in determining his future.
