Inter Milan have completed the signing of goalkeeper Ivan Provedel from Lazio, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 32-year-old Italian international has signed a three-year contract with the Nerazzurri, extending until 2029, for a fee of €3 million.
Provedel arrives at the San Siro as the likely understudy to Josep Martinez, who recently joined Inter following the departure of Yann Sommer on a free transfer. The move provides Inter with experienced cover in the goalkeeping position after losing Sommer, who himself had only arrived last summer.
Throughout his career, Provedel has played for ten different Italian clubs, beginning his development with Udinese and Chievo Verona. He departs Lazio having made 146 appearances for the club, and is notable for scoring a goal – a rare feat for a goalkeeper – in the 2023 Champions League group stage match against Atlético Madrid, which finished 1-1.
Provedel was named Serie A’s best goalkeeper for the 2022-2023 season, recognizing his consistent performances for Lazio. He has also been a regular call-up for the Italian national team, although he is yet to make an appearance for the Azzurri. His arrival adds further competition to Inter’s goalkeeping ranks, providing a solid backup option for Martinez as they aim to defend their Serie A title. The transfer allows Lazio to reshape their squad following a period of change, while Inter secure a proven Serie A performer.
