Inter Milan have initiated discussions with Liverpool regarding a potential transfer for midfielder Curtis Jones, according to reports emerging from a meeting in Monte Carlo. Inter’s sporting director Piero Ausilio and Liverpool’s Richard Hughes held talks at an event hosted by Federico Pastorello’s agency, marking the first direct contact between the clubs over the 22-year-old player.
Liverpool are believed to be seeking a fee of around €40 million for Jones, a figure Inter consider a starting point for negotiations. The Italian club are aware that Jones’ current contract with Liverpool does not expire until June 2027, a factor they believe will compel the Premier League side to lower their demands to avoid losing the player for free. Reports suggest Jones has already expressed a strong desire to join Inter and has remained committed to the move since January.
Inter manager Cristian Chivu views Jones as a key addition to his squad, potentially deploying him as an attacking midfielder in a 3-4-2-1 formation or as a central midfielder in a more conventional 3-5-2 setup. The pursuit of Jones comes as Inter’s plans for Nico Paz have stalled, making the Liverpool midfielder a priority target.
Alongside the Jones negotiations, Inter are also focused on other transfer targets. The club is reportedly in discussions with Roma over Manu Koné, seeking to capitalize on the Italian side’s need to generate funds to comply with UEFA’s financial fair play regulations. Henrikh Mkhitaryan has indicated his willingness to extend his stay with Inter for another season, providing squad depth. Inter may also consider offers for players like Sucic or Diouf, while Samuele Stankovic is expected to be re-signed by Bruges with a view to a future sale.
Inter are also addressing defensive reinforcements, with Oumar Solet emerging as a potential replacement for Francesco Acerbi. Stefan De Vrij is expected to sign a one-year contract extension, and the club is also considering Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel as a potential backup to their current number one, Pepo Martinez. A move for Provedel is contingent on Rino Gattuso’s approval as the new Lazio manager.
