The Italian transfer window officially opened today, yet Inter Milan have only secured the arrival of Ivan Provedel as a backup goalkeeper, pending final approval from Claudio Lotito, according to reports in Italy. The club had hoped to have key signings completed prior to the window’s opening, but a deal for Marco Palestra fell through, leaving a void at right-back following Denzel Dumfries’ expected move to Real Madrid.
Inter are now focusing on several alternatives, with Anan Khalaili of Union Saint-Gilloise emerging as a leading candidate to fill the right-back position. Khalaili impressed Inter during Champions League matches, despite a 4-0 defeat for his team against a side featuring Cristian Chivu. Napoli are also interested in the Israeli international, having reportedly offered 15 million euros, but Inter are prepared to compete, with Union Saint-Gilloise valuing Khalaili’s transfer at 25 million euros due to a 15% sell-on clause owed to Maccabi Haifa. Inter are seeking a player with similar attributes to Dumfries, and believe Khalaili fits that profile.
Strengthening the central defense is another priority for Inter, following the departures of Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij. Joel Ordonez of Club Brugge is a potential target, but Trevoh Chalobah of Chelsea is the primary focus. Inter have previously expressed interest in Chalobah, and this year appear more determined to finalize a deal. However, they face competition from Serie A rivals Como, who have submitted a 27 million euro offer to Chelsea – 25 million fixed plus 2 million in bonuses – while Chelsea are holding out for 40 million euros.
Interest in Oumar Solet of Udinese has cooled, with the club unwilling to lower their asking price amid interest from foreign clubs. Curtis Jones of Liverpool is also a target, but Inter have not met Liverpool’s 30 million euro valuation, and other offers have emerged for the English midfielder. Inter’s manager Simone Inzaghi has less immediate need for reinforcements in midfield, with Aleksandar Stankovic and Yanis Massolin recently arriving at the club. Overall, Inter are entering the transfer window with clear objectives and are actively pursuing several targets to address key areas of the squad.
