Inter have completed the permanent signing of midfielder Aleksandar Stankovic from Club Brugge for a reported fee of €23 million, the club confirmed. The move sees the 20-year-old return to the club where his father, Dejan Stankovic, enjoyed a highly successful playing career.
Stankovic progressed through Inter’s youth system before moving to Belgium, where he established himself as a regular in Club Brugge’s midfield. Last season, he made 29 appearances in the Belgian league, scoring four goals and providing two assists. He also featured in ten Champions League matches, adding two goals and two assists in Europe’s premier club competition. His overall tally for the season across both competitions was six goals and four assists in 39 appearances.
Inter exercised their buyback clause to bring Stankovic back to the San Siro, a decision reportedly backed by coach Cristian Chivu, who previously worked with the player in the youth setup. The investment signals a clear vote of confidence in the young Serbian’s potential. While he is not expected to immediately break into the starting eleven, Chivu intends to integrate Stankovic into the first-team squad and avoid another loan spell.
Stankovic is primarily a central midfielder, capable of playing in a deeper or more advanced role. He is likely to be viewed as a backup to Hakan Calhanoglu, with the potential to feature in Serie A and Champions League matches, offering squad depth for Inter as they compete on multiple fronts.
