Inter Milan have shifted their focus to Lazio goalkeeper Ivan Provedel as a potential backup to their first-choice keeper, Alejandro Martinez, according to reports in Italy. Initial interest in Tottenham’s Guglielmo Vicario has cooled, with the Nerazzurri now considering the 32-year-old Provedel as a viable option.
Martinez has firmly established himself as Inter’s number one goalkeeper, having been promoted following two seasons as understudy to Yann Sommer, whose contract has now expired. The former Genoa player overcame a difficult year, both on and off the pitch, including a road traffic incident, to impress, starting every Coppa Italia match for Inter under Simone Inzaghi, and playing a key role in their victory over Lazio in the final.
Inter are now assessing options for a reliable backup, and Provedel has emerged as a strong candidate. The Lazio goalkeeper has been a consistent starter since joining the club in 2022, though he recently lost his place to the younger Antonio Motta due to injury. A transfer fee of around €3-4 million is anticipated for Provedel.
Another potential candidate is Chelsea loanee Kepa Arrizabalaga, currently with Arsenal, but Provedel’s status as an Italian national – born in Pordenone – is seen as advantageous in terms of Serie A squad registration rules. Kepa, 31, has a decorated career, winning two Champions League titles as a backup and the Europa League as a starter with Chelsea, as well as the Nations League with Spain. Inter are looking to balance experience with Italian talent in their squad, and both keepers fit that profile. The arrival of either goalkeeper would provide strong competition and cover for Martinez as Inter look to defend their Serie A title.
