Several Inter players will play their final home match for the club against Verona on Sunday, as contracts expire and departures loom. Among those set to bid farewell are goalkeeper Yann Sommer, defender Francesco Acerbi, full-back Matteo Darmian, midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan, and forward Davide Frattesi, with defender Stefan De Vrij also potentially playing his last game at the San Siro.
Sommer arrived at Inter and quickly became a key figure, contributing to the club’s Serie A title win and reaching the Champions League final. The Swiss international has recorded 19 clean sheets in his first season and made a crucial save against Yamal during the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona. He will depart at the end of his contract this June.
Acerbi, who has made nearly 150 appearances for Inter, will also leave after winning two Coppa Italia titles, two Supercoppe, and two Serie A titles, scoring five goals. He is particularly remembered for a dramatic late goal against Barcelona. Darmian, who joined in 2020, departs with nine trophies in six seasons, though he saw limited playing time this season with only five league appearances. De Vrij, a three-time Serie A champion, is also expected to leave after almost 300 appearances since joining in 2018.
Mkhitaryan, 38, may retire after a successful spell with Inter following three years at Roma. He was a central figure in Simone Inzaghi’s midfield for three seasons and scored four league goals this season, his highest tally during his time at the club. He has not ruled out retirement, stating he will decide after the final match. Frattesi, who played a role in Inter’s Champions League run with important goals against Bayern Munich and Barcelona, will also depart in search of regular playing time, with Inter seeking around €25 million for the forward. There is also uncertainty surrounding Alessandro Bastoni, who has been linked with Barcelona, but no concrete signals of his departure have emerged.
