Inter have signed Slovenian midfielder Luka Topalovic from Domzale for a reported fee of €1.5 million, the club confirmed. The 20-year-old made his Serie A debut for Inter against Bologna on Friday, providing an assist for a late equalizer in a 3-3 draw.
Topalovic, born February 23, 2006, joined Inter during the summer of 2024 from the Slovenian club known for developing young talent, including Manchester United’s Benjamin Šeško. Despite his young age and limited experience outside of Slovenia prior to the transfer, Inter’s scouting department identified his potential, investing in a player who had yet to fully establish himself.
Prior to his Serie A appearance, Topalovic had been featuring prominently for Inter’s Under 23 team in Serie C, where he recorded 4 goals and 6 assists in 34 matches. His performances demonstrated an ability to adapt to the physicality of Italian football, a crucial factor for success at the senior level. He previously made his debut for Como in Serie B last season.
During his brief appearance against Bologna, Topalovic showcased his technical ability with a clever assist, drawing comparisons to former Roma captain Francesco Totti for its execution. Some observers have also noted similarities in playing style to Kevin De Bruyne, although those comparisons are currently considered ambitious. The Guardian previously included Topalovic on their list of 60 top talents born after 2006.
Topalovic’s arrival provides Inter with another promising young player, adding depth to their midfield options. His immediate impact off the bench suggests he could contribute to both the Under 23 squad and potentially the first team in the future. The signing represents a continuation of Inter’s strategy of investing in emerging talent and developing players within their system.
