Andoni Iraola has agreed to a two-year contract to become the new manager of Liverpool, with the deal running until June 2028, according to Fabrizio Romano. The Basque tactician, recently departed from Bournemouth, has already begun discussing transfer plans with Liverpool officials.
Liverpool have been swiftly pursuing Iraola following the departure of Arne Slot, with the club eager to establish a clear direction ahead of a significant rebuild. Iraola reportedly requested the two-year deal, mirroring the length of his contract at Bournemouth, indicating a preference for shorter-term commitments focused on immediate impact.
Alongside finalizing the managerial appointment, Liverpool are also exploring potential squad additions. Reports suggest Iraola has identified five new signings as priorities, and may oversee the departure of several players, including Ibrahima Konate. A key target appears to be Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi, who enjoyed a prolific season under Iraola, scoring 13 Premier League goals in 33 appearances.
While Bournemouth are reportedly reluctant to sell Kroupi, valuing him between £80 million and £100 million, other clubs are also showing strong interest. Romano reports that Arsenal, Manchester City, and Paris Saint-Germain have all made inquiries about the 20-year-old, with PSG establishing a strong connection with Kroupi’s representatives. The potential arrival of Iraola at Anfield could significantly influence Kroupi’s decision, offering a familiar environment and a proven working relationship.
Liverpool are also considering other attacking options, with Hugo Ekitike sidelined with an Achilles injury and questions surrounding the form of Alexander Isak. The club is also reportedly monitoring a £100 million-rated forward, though no specific player has been publicly identified. Iraola is also expected to seek a new defender, with a player valued at £40 million currently on the club’s radar. The swift appointment of Iraola allows Liverpool to focus on strengthening the squad and preparing for the upcoming season.
