Liverpool are expected to pursue as many as seven new signings this summer under newly appointed manager Andoni Iraola, according to a report from Football Insider. The need for significant squad overhaul stems from what sources describe as ‘major issues’ within the current team following a disappointing Premier League title defence.
Iraola was confirmed as the successor to Arne Slot last week, signing a two-year contract with the Merseyside club. The former Bournemouth boss inherits a squad already facing departures, with Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson both leaving Anfield this window. Liverpool are reportedly considering a swap deal involving an unnamed underperforming player to acquire RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande as a potential replacement for Salah.
Beyond Diomande, the report suggests Liverpool are prioritizing upgrades across multiple positions, including right-back, centre-back, and centre midfield. A source speaking to Football Insider indicated the scale of the task facing Iraola, stating that six or seven positions currently require immediate attention. The source highlighted potential departures of Alisson Becker, alongside the already confirmed exits of Robertson and Konate, as contributing factors.
Concerns were also raised regarding the age of Virgil van Dijk, who is 34, and the need for a new right-back. Further forward, the loss of Salah and an injury to Ekitike necessitate additional attacking reinforcements. The source emphasized that Iraola is already aware of these issues and will require significant financial backing from the club to address them effectively. The ultimate goal, according to the source, is to restore Liverpool to a position of success, but this will depend on the club’s willingness to support the manager’s vision.
Recent reports have also suggested Alisson Becker could be on his way to Serie A with Juventus, though a move was recently blocked by Liverpool’s hierarchy. Talks regarding the goalkeeper’s future are expected to take place between Alisson and the club’s management. These potential departures, coupled with existing squad weaknesses, underscore the urgency for Liverpool to act decisively in the transfer market.
