Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has informed the club he will depart at the end of the season when his contract expires, triggering interest from several Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Chelsea, and Crystal Palace.
Iraola’s decision comes despite a successful campaign with the Cherries, currently sixth in the Premier League and within reach of Champions League qualification. Saturday’s win at Fulham kept Bournemouth just three points behind Aston Villa, who have a game in hand, in the race for a top-five finish. The Spaniard has overseen a remarkable turnaround given the significant player departures last summer, including Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez, Illia Zabarnyi, and Dango Outtara, and the January sale of Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City.
According to sources, Manchester United are considering Iraola as a potential replacement for their current interim manager, Michael Carrick, though Carrick is making a strong case for the role full-time. Chelsea are also reportedly viewing the 43-year-old as a ‘strong candidate’ following the recent departure of Liam Rosenior. Crystal Palace are similarly in the market for a new manager with Oliver Glasner set to leave when his contract concludes.
Iraola remained guarded about his future following the victory over Fulham, stating he is “fully focused on trying to finish this season with a reward, something tangible for the players and supporters.” He did confirm that Marco Rose will be the next Bournemouth manager, describing the decision to move on as one that brought “relief” and allowed for a “clean and honest” relationship with the club during the remainder of his tenure.
Newcastle United have also been tentatively linked with Iraola, though Eddie Howe is believed to be committed to remaining at St James’ Park. The race for Iraola’s signature is therefore still open, with several top clubs vying for his services. His success in stabilizing and improving Bournemouth despite challenging circumstances has made him a highly sought-after managerial prospect.
