Former Bayern Munich defender Valérien Ismaël has publicly advocated for his former club to sign Tottenham Hotspur right-back Pedro Porro. Ismaël, who played for Bayern between 2005 and 2008, highlighted Porro’s qualities in an interview with Sport BILD, suggesting he would be a “fantastic addition” to the Bundesliga champions.
Ismaël praised Porro’s all-around game, noting his defensive tenacity, speed, and attacking contributions. He specifically stated that full-backs of Porro’s caliber are difficult to acquire in the current transfer market, and believes the Spaniard would be a “perfect fit” under Bayern’s new manager, Vincent Kompany. The former Barnsley and Watford manager believes Porro would thrive in Kompany’s system.
Porro, 26, recently enjoyed a successful campaign with both Tottenham and the Spanish national team. He played a significant role in Spain’s 2026 World Cup triumph, contributing two goals and five clean sheets in six appearances. For Tottenham, Porro has established himself as a key player since joining the club from Sporting CP in January 2023, quickly becoming known for his energetic performances and crossing ability.
However, any potential move to Munich could face obstacles, as the Press Association reports that Porro recently signed a contract extension with Tottenham in June, committing his future to the club until 2031. This long-term deal would likely require Bayern to offer a substantial fee to convince Tottenham to part ways with one of their key players. The financial implications of such a transfer are currently unknown.
Bayern are currently undergoing a period of transition under Kompany, following the departure of Thomas Tuchel. Strengthening the full-back positions could be a priority for the new manager as he looks to reshape the squad and challenge for domestic and European honours.
