Several Italian clubs are monitoring the situation of Borussia Dortmund centre-back Luca Reggiani, according to a report in Bild. The 18-year-old defender, who recently made his senior international debut for Italy, could be open to a return to his homeland.
Reggiani broke into the Dortmund first team last season, making nine appearances across all competitions for the Bundesliga side. His progress was rewarded with a call-up to the Italian national team in June, where he earned his first senior cap, reportedly increasing his profile among clubs in Serie A.
Dortmund currently have a wealth of options at centre-back, which could influence their decision regarding Reggiani’s future. Waldemar Anton, Ramy Bensebaini, and recent signing Joane Gadou all compete for places in the starting eleven, alongside the recovering Nico Schlotterbeck and Emre Can, who can also feature in the central defensive positions.
Reggiani joined Dortmund from Atalanta’s youth setup in January 2023, initially linking up with the club’s U19s before quickly progressing to the senior squad. He signed a contract until 2027, indicating Dortmund’s initial faith in his potential. However, the increased competition for places and the possibility of a lucrative offer from Italy could prompt the German club to consider a sale.
Bild’s report suggests Dortmund would be willing to entertain offers for Reggiani if a suitable bid is received. While no specific clubs have been named as potential suitors, the defender’s recent international appearance and promising performances for Dortmund have undoubtedly attracted attention. A move back to Italy could offer Reggiani more consistent first-team football, while Dortmund may seek to recoup a significant fee for a player who has quickly increased in value.
