Werder Bremen midfielder Jens Stage is in discussions with Hoffenheim regarding a potential move during the summer transfer window, according to Sky Germany. The 29-year-old is reportedly open to joining the Sinsheim club, though no agreement has yet been reached between Hoffenheim and Werder Bremen concerning a transfer fee.
Stage established himself as a key player for Werder Bremen following his arrival from FC Copenhagen in 2022. He has become a consistent performer in midfield, contributing both defensively and offensively. Last season, Stage finished as Werder’s top goalscorer with 10 goals, highlighting his increasing importance to the team.
Hoffenheim are seeking to bolster their midfield options ahead of the new campaign, and the potential departure of Grischa Prömel to VfB Stuttgart has created a vacancy. Prömel’s move will be completed on a free transfer, making Stage a direct replacement option for the Hoffenheim coaching staff. The club finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season, narrowly missing out on European qualification.
Werder Bremen, meanwhile, endured a mid-table finish in the Bundesliga, and retaining key players will be crucial for their ambitions next season. Stage is currently under contract with Werder Bremen until 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating position. However, his consistent performances and goal-scoring record may make it difficult to resist a suitable offer from Hoffenheim.
The transfer could provide Stage with an opportunity to compete at a higher level, potentially challenging for European qualification with Hoffenheim. For Werder Bremen, losing their top scorer would necessitate finding a suitable replacement before the start of the new season, potentially impacting their attacking options.
