Gabriel Jesus has publicly stated his continued desire to leave Arsenal this summer and rejoin his former club, Palmeiras, admitting he thinks about the move on a daily basis.
The 29-year-old forward is entering the final year of his contract with Arsenal and has found himself increasingly on the periphery of the first team since returning from a long-term injury in December. He has made only two Premier League starts this season and has been omitted from some of Mikel Arteta’s matchday squads.
Speaking to ESPN, Jesus emphasized his long-held ambition to play for Palmeiras, the club where he began his professional career. “I think about it every day, I follow it closely,” he said. “It's my dream, I've made it clear that one day I'll be back, I just don't know when, if it's today, tomorrow, so I think about it every day.” He further added, “The future belongs to God, it's a club I have a lot of affection for, I'm a passionate fan…my choice when I return to Brazil will always be Palmeiras.”
Jesus arrived at Arsenal from Manchester City in 2022 and initially played a key role, scoring 11 goals in his debut season. However, his form and availability have been hampered by injuries, resulting in only nine league goals across the subsequent three seasons. Arsenal are now reportedly open to offers for the Brazilian international.
Palmeiras have also expressed their interest in re-signing Jesus, but the financial feasibility of the transfer remains uncertain. Arsenal may be willing to accept a reduced fee to facilitate the move and free up funds for a new forward. Julian Alvarez and Eli Kroupi have been mentioned as potential targets for Arteta as he looks to strengthen his title-winning squad. A departure for Jesus would likely open up a significant attacking slot in the Arsenal lineup.
This situation presents a mutually beneficial outcome, allowing Jesus to pursue his dream while Arsenal can reshape their attacking options.
