Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jørgensen is nearing a move to Strasbourg, with an agreement between the two clubs described as “almost done” according to sources close to the negotiations. The Denmark international has already departed Chelsea’s pre-season tour in Australia to finalize the transfer.
Salary details are the remaining point of discussion, though both clubs are confident of a swift resolution. Jørgensen joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer of 2024 for £20.7million, signing a long-term contract, but has largely served as understudy to Robert Sánchez.
Despite showing promise, particularly during Chelsea’s Conference League campaign, Jørgensen has found Premier League opportunities limited. This lack of consistent playing time has led to frustration for the Swedish-born keeper, who is eager to secure regular minutes to bolster his international prospects with Denmark. Chelsea are reportedly open to his departure, whether on a permanent deal or a loan.
Chelsea do not currently plan to sign a replacement for Jørgensen, with highly-rated Belgian prospect Mike Penders returning from a loan spell at Strasbourg and expected to compete for a first-team place under new head coach Xabi Alonso. The move for Jørgensen represents a significant upgrade for Strasbourg in goal and reinforces the close relationship between the two clubs, both owned by BlueCo.
Strasbourg have previously benefited from Chelsea loanees, and this transfer continues that collaborative approach. Should the deal be completed in the coming days, it will mark one of the first significant departures from Chelsea during the summer transfer window. The expectation is that Jørgensen will establish himself as a first-choice goalkeeper and continue his development outside the competitive environment at Stamford Bridge.
