Juventus and Como scout Valladolid's Chuki ahead of potential free transfer
Juventus are intensifying their scouting of Real Valladolid attacking midfielder Ivan San José Cantalejo, known as Chuki, ahead of a potential summer move. According to reports from Italy, Juventus observers have been present at recent Valladolid matches in Spain's Segunda División, where they have encountered scouts from newly-promoted Serie A side Como, who are tracking the same player. The 20-year-old's contract expires in June, making him an attractive free-agent target for a number of European clubs, including RB Leipzig and VfB Stuttgart.
Chuki has emerged as a standout talent in the Spanish second tier this season, registering seven goals and seven assists. His creative profile and vision have drawn praise, notably from former Spain international Cesc Fàbregas, who has highlighted the player's suitability for Como's project. For Juventus, the player represents a low-cost opportunity to add a promising young talent to their squad, aligning with a recent strategy of targeting value in the market. The club's prestige is considered a key advantage in any negotiations.
However, Juventus's sporting director, Cristiano Giuntoli, faces financial constraints that may limit their ability to offer a lucrative salary package. The club has several other priorities and must consider potential player sales to facilitate new arrivals. One player who could depart is 18-year-old midfielder Vasilije Adzic, who is seeking more playing time elsewhere. Securing Chuki on a free transfer would allow funds to be allocated to other areas of the squad needing reinforcement.
The competition from Como is considered serious, as the club offers a less pressurized environment and a coach with a strong reputation for developing Spanish talent. Both German suitors, Leipzig and Stuttgart, also provide a clear pathway for immediate first-team football. Despite this, Juventus have reportedly decided to escalate their monitoring of Chuki and will attempt to make their move when the transfer window opens. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether the Bianconeri can leverage their historical stature to win the race for his signature.
