Juventus Boss Spalletti Fuels Liverpool-Transfer Links to Conceicao
Juventus manager Luciano Spalletti has compared his winger Francisco Conceicao to a young Mohamed Salah, fueling speculation that the Portuguese star could be a transfer target for Liverpool. The Reds are in the market for a new right-sided forward following Mohamed Salah's announcement that he will leave Anfield at the end of the season. According to FootballTransfers, Liverpool are among a host of clubs with a serious interest in the 23-year-old.
Spalletti, who managed a young Mohamed Salah at Roma, was asked about the comparison between the two players after Juventus's 2-0 win over Genoa. "The comparison with the early Salah is appropriate," Spalletti told Sky Sport Italia, as reported by TMW. The 64-year-old coach, who has managed the winger for less than a year since his move from Porto, was effusive in his praise for the winger's raw talent.
"Conceicao is still a young player; he has things to learn," Spalletti added. "He needs to convince himself that he can also play more centrally. Out wide, he becomes unmarkable; he is truly very strong. In seven or eight situations, he creates just as many potential chances. As a winger, he is one of the strongest I have ever seen. He has this intensity and aggressiveness in one-on-one situations that is hard to contain."
The Juventus manager did note areas for improvement, stating Conceicao must develop his vision and passing, but the overall assessment was a significant endorsement. His comments have been interpreted as a potential signal that the player, who has a contract with Juventus until 2029, could be available for the right price this summer. Juventus paid Porto a reported €32 million for the winger just last summer, and his value is expected to have increased following a strong debut season in Italy.
Analytics firm SciSports, whose data is used by many top clubs, reportedly rates Conceicao's current performance levels as superior to Salah's at the same age. The data firm also ranks him as the top-performing attacking midfielder in Serie A this season, with particular strength in crossing, finishing, and dribbling. This data, combined with Spalletti's public praise, is likely to have placed the 23-year-old on the radar of several top clubs, with Liverpool's need for a Salah replacement making them a prominent name in the conversation.
While no formal offer has been reported, the public comments from his manager have inevitably intensified the transfer links. For Liverpool, a move for Conceicao would represent a significant investment in a high-upside, direct replacement for their legendary forward, continuing a recent trend of recruiting young, technically gifted attackers from across Europe. The coming months will reveal if the Reds formalize their interest in the player Spalletti has so directly compared to a modern Anfield icon.
