Juventus Complete €40m Signing of Aston Villa's Douglas Luiz
Juventus have finalized the €40m (£34m) acquisition of Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, with the Serie A club confirming a five-year contract through June 2029.
The deal includes €3m in potential add-ons and sees Weston McKennie move to Villa Park as part of the agreement, with Samuel Iling-Junior also joining the Premier League side in separate negotiations. Medicals were completed on Sunday ahead of the formal announcement.
Luiz, 26, becomes Juventus' first major summer signing as manager Thiago Motta seeks to revamp his midfield. The former Manchester City player scored nine goals and provided five assists in 35 Premier League appearances last season, establishing himself as a key figure under Unai Emery.
For Villa, the sale helps address Profit and Sustainability Rules concerns after their fourth-place finish secured Champions League football. Juventus sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli described Luiz as "a complete midfielder who fits our tactical vision perfectly" in a brief club statement.
The transfer concludes a protracted negotiation that began with initial talks in June, with personal terms agreed in principle last week. Luiz is expected to join Juventus' preseason training camp on July 10 ahead of their US tour.
