Juventus are revisiting the possibility of signing Crystal Palace forward Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to reports in Italy. The move comes amid continued uncertainty surrounding the future of current striker Dusan Vlahovic, who is reportedly stalling on contract extension talks.
Juventus’ season concluded recently, and the club faces several key decisions in the transfer market, including strengthening their attacking options. While Vlahovic remains a key consideration, the club is exploring alternatives, with Mateta emerging as a potential target. The 28-year-old previously underwent a medical with AC Milan in January but was deemed unsuitable due to concerns over his right knee.
Mateta recently played a pivotal role in Crystal Palace’s victory in the Conference League final, scoring the winning goal against Rayo Vallecano. He has since been called up to the French national team for the upcoming international fixtures. Despite initial concerns about his fitness, Mateta has demonstrated strong form in the spring, scoring six goals and proving his capabilities. His contract with Crystal Palace is set to expire in 2027, meaning the club may be open to a sale.
Crystal Palace currently value Mateta at around €35 million, a figure that was also quoted during the January transfer window. The player’s expiring contract gives him some negotiating power, potentially preventing the Premier League club from demanding an excessive fee. With Vlahovic exploring options with other top European clubs and the potential pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain still uncertain, Juventus may prioritize a move for Mateta in June. France manager Didier Deschamps recently preferred Mateta to Kolo Muani, highlighting the forward’s current standing. While Mateta lacks experience in Serie A and with Juventus, he has consistently scored in double figures in the Premier League over the last three seasons.
The possibility of Mateta joining Juventus could have implications for both Vlahovic and PSG, potentially influencing their transfer strategies this summer.
