Juventus defender Federico Gatti attracts interest amid summer sale speculation
Juventus defender Federico Gatti has emerged as a potential transfer sacrifice this summer, with the club reportedly willing to listen to significant offers for the Italian centre-back. According to reports, the Bianconeri value the 26-year-old at approximately 25 million euros, a figure that could be met by several interested clubs in the coming weeks. Gatti, who was promoted to and established as a starter by manager Massimiliano Allegri, is admired by the coach but is seen as a viable asset to raise funds for squad reinforcements.
The defender's agents, Dario Paolillo and Luca Carnaghi, met with AC Milan's management in mid-December to discuss a potential transfer, though those talks stalled over Juventus's valuation. Interest, however, extends beyond Serie A. Clubs from the Premier League, specifically Nottingham Forest and Everton, remain keen and could revive their pursuit after attempts last summer. Additionally, Turkish giants Galatasaray have made an enquiry and are expected to send an emissary to Italy to deepen discussions with Juventus officials in the coming days.
The situation indicates that should a suitable offer arrive, Juventus would be prepared to sell Gatti, even to a direct domestic rival. Napoli is noted as a potential suitor, with their sporting director Giovanni Manna, who worked with Gatti during his own tenure at Juventus, holding the player in high regard. This potential departure aligns with a broader strategy at both Juventus and AC Milan to generate capital from player sales to finance ambitious summer moves requested by Allegri and Napoli's Luciano Spalletti, aiming to bolster their squads for a more competitive Scudetto challenge next season.
In a related development, AC Milan appears ready to part ways with midfielder Youssouf Fofana at the end of the season. The French international, signed from Monaco, has not fully convinced Allegri, who is pushing strongly for the arrival of Bayern Munich's Leon Goretzka. Should that pursuit succeed, Fofana's departure would be facilitated. The 25-year-old has reportedly declined advances from Turkish clubs Galatasaray and Fenerbahce in January, with his preference leaning towards other leagues.
Premier League side West Ham United, a long-term admirer for around two years, is a likely destination, while interest is also strong in France's Ligue 1. Both Olympique Lyonnais, where former Milan coach Paulo Fonseca is an admirer, and Olympique de Marseille are monitoring the situation, though Marseille must first resolve their sporting director position following Mehdi Benatia's impending departure. Milan have set an asking price of 30 million euros for Fofana, clarifying their position ahead of the summer window.
