Juventus are currently leading the pursuit of Bayern Munich centre-back Kim Min-jae, though Manchester United remain interested in the South Korean international, according to Bild football chief Christian Falk.
The 29-year-old has emerged as a potential target for both clubs during the current transfer window, but Juventus appear to be in a stronger position to secure his signature. La Gazzetta dello Sport previously reported that Kim has already indicated his willingness to join the Serie A side.
Kim joined Bayern Munich from Napoli last summer for a reported fee of €50 million, quickly establishing himself as a key player under Thomas Tuchel. He made 36 appearances across all competitions for the Bavarian club last season, helping them secure another Bundesliga title. However, his role has become less prominent in recent months, leading to speculation about a possible departure.
A move to Juventus would see Kim reunite with Luciano Spalletti, the current manager who previously coached him at Napoli. The pair enjoyed a successful working relationship in Italy, winning the Serie A title together in the 2022-23 season. Spalletti’s presence is believed to be a significant factor in Kim’s reported preference for a transfer to Turin.
Manchester United’s interest in Kim stems from their need to strengthen their defensive options. Erik ten Hag is reportedly seeking to add another centre-back to his squad, and Kim’s physicality, aerial ability, and passing range would make him a valuable asset. However, United will need to move quickly if they are to compete with Juventus, who are seemingly further along in negotiations.
Despite the external interest, Kim is reportedly content with his current situation at Bayern, and a departure is not guaranteed. The club may be reluctant to sell a key player unless they receive a suitable offer. Should the move to Juventus fall through, Manchester United could then attempt to initiate discussions with Bayern regarding a potential deal. This outcome would depend heavily on Kim’s willingness to consider alternative options and Bayern’s overall transfer strategy.
Securing Kim would represent a significant coup for either club, adding a proven international defender to their ranks. His arrival would likely solidify their defensive stability and provide a valuable option in both domestic and European competitions.
