Juventus are reportedly interested in signing Fabio Chiarodia from Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to reports in Italy. The 21-year-old defender has been a key figure for the Italy Under 21 side under coach Silvio Baldini, who highlighted Chiarodia’s eagerness to join the national team setup, arriving hours before his teammates for a recent camp.
Chiarodia’s family background is rooted in Italian emigration; his parents originally hail from the Veneto region but moved to Germany, where they established a successful gelato business in Oldenburg. He began his footballing journey with Werder Bremen, progressing through their youth ranks before making his first-team debut at the remarkably young age of seventeen years and 140 days, becoming the club’s youngest ever player to feature in the Bundesliga. He went on to make 41 appearances for Mönchengladbach, scoring one goal.
The centre-back was previously identified as a potential signing for Juventus in 2023, but a move did not materialise at that time. Chiarodia has also attracted attention from the Italian national team, receiving a call-up to a training camp with Roberto Mancini in 2022, demonstrating his potential on the international stage. He cites Giorgio Chiellini as an idol, though acknowledges stylistic similarities to Leonardo Bonucci.
Chiarodia’s story is being compared to that of Vincenzo Grifo, another player with Italian heritage who has found success through football. A potential move to Juventus would see him return closer to his family’s roots and compete in Serie A, a league he has expressed a fondness for through his upbringing. The transfer could provide Juventus with a long-term solution in central defence, adding depth and potential to their squad.
