Juventus are interested in re-signing Sassuolo defender Tarik Muharemovic, with the club holding a 50% sell-on percentage from his previous departure according to reports in Italy. The move hinges on Muharemovic overcoming lingering disappointment from his earlier time in Turin.
The 22-year-old Bosnian centre-back has impressed at Sassuolo since joining from Juventus in August 2024, becoming a regular fixture in their defense. Juventus are reportedly seeking to bolster their backline and view Muharemovic as an ideal reinforcement, partially due to the existing financial advantage of the sell-on clause. The new Juventus sporting director, Giovanni Carnevali, is also known to be a strong admirer of the player, alongside the existing relationship Muharemovic has with Kenan Yildiz.
Muharemovic’s previous spell with Juventus was marked by frustration. He received his first call-up to the senior squad on January 4th, 2024, for a Coppa Italia match against Salernitana, but was an unused substitute despite a 6-1 victory. The defender later expressed his disappointment, stating to DAZN that it was difficult to watch teammates debut while he remained on the sidelines. Several other players from the Juventus Next Gen squad were given opportunities that season, adding to his sense of exclusion.
Further complicating a potential return is his experience during the summer of 2024. Muharemovic was invited to join the first team for their pre-season training camp but received limited playing time under then-manager Thiago Motta, failing to feature in a friendly against Norimberga. This led to his eventual move to Sassuolo. Muharemovic has publicly stated he has become more resilient, comparing himself to his father, but overcoming the emotional impact of these past experiences will be crucial for a successful return to Juventus. Successfully navigating this will be key to the transfer, as the report suggests he must set aside some pride to return to the club.
