Juventus are monitoring the situation of Mason Greenwood ahead of a potential summer move, with a transfer reportedly contingent on Olympique de Marseille failing to qualify for the Champions League. According to Italian media reports, the Serie A club's long-standing interest in the 22-year-old English forward could accelerate if Marseille, currently sixth in Ligue 1, miss out on a top-four finish. The French club's European fate will be decided in the final three matchdays of the season.
The Bianconeri's pursuit of Greenwood dates back to March 2023, and sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli held extensive talks with Manchester United in the summer of 2024. Juventus were ultimately unable to complete a deal at that time, partly due to difficulties in offloading Federico Chiesa, which allowed Marseille to secure Greenwood on a permanent transfer. The forward has since rebuilt his career in France after a highly publicized legal case in England, which was dropped after key witnesses withdrew their cooperation.
At Marseille, Greenwood has enjoyed a significant resurgence under manager Roberto De Zerbi. Last season, his 47 goals and 16 assists were instrumental in securing a second-place finish for the club. His current campaign has helped keep Marseille in contention for a Champions League spot, a crucial financial objective for the club. Should they fall short, Marseille may be forced to consider selling key assets, a scenario upon which Juventus are reportedly basing their strategy.
The potential transfer fee is expected to start from a valuation of around 50 million euros, a figure influenced by a significant sell-on clause owed to Manchester United. Juventus believe they hold a strong negotiating position due to their positive relationship with Marseille, fostered last summer by the sale of Timothy Weah to the French side. Furthermore, the deal could involve a part-exchange, with Marseille's previously expressed interest in Juventus winger Edon Zhegrova potentially providing a useful makeweight in negotiations.
Greenwood's arrival would address a key area of focus for Juventus as they plan their attacking options for next season. The club is assessing its wide attacking department, with the performances of Francisco Conceicao attracting interest from Premier League clubs and Zhegrova failing to register a goal or assist this term. Securing a player of Greenwood's proven output would represent a major statement of intent as Juventus look to build a squad capable of challenging domestically and in Europe.
