Juventus are considering a move for Bologna centre-back Jhon Lucumí as manager Massimiliano Spalletti looks to strengthen his defensive options, according to reports emerging from Italy. Lucumí recently participated in the World Cup with Colombia and is currently on holiday, but Bologna director Claudio Fenucci has indicated the club would be open to a sale under the right conditions.
Fenucci addressed Lucumí’s situation during a market update for Bologna, stating the club’s valuation remains firm despite the player having only one year remaining on his contract. He revealed a promise was made to Lucumí last year, after he received a significant offer that could have altered his career trajectory. Bologna requested he remain with the club for another season, with an agreement that he would be allowed to depart if a suitable offer arrived this summer. “We’ll see if an adequate offer arrives,” Fenucci said, “but if it does, we will satisfy him, otherwise he will stay with us.”
The transfer window has been slow to gain momentum for Juventus, partially due to the recent conclusion of the World Cup. The Bianconeri are prioritizing both strengthening their attack and reinforcing their defense, but need to generate funds through player sales to facilitate new signings. Kolo Muani of Eintracht Frankfurt is a target in attack, though Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price is proving prohibitive, while Pellegrino of Parma is also under consideration.
Juventus have already brought in Timothy Celik on a free transfer, and are now focusing on Lucumí, a player who was linked with the club at the end of last season. The expiration of a release clause of €28 million in his contract means Bologna may now be willing to accept a lower fee, given Lucumí’s contractual situation.
Juventus are also working to trim their squad, with Cabal reportedly attracting interest from Besiktas, and Rugani a potential target for Monza and Bologna. Joao Mario is also a candidate to leave, with Fiorentina interested in a loan deal with an option to buy, though Juventus would prefer an obligation to buy. The club may also need to consider offers for Bremer and Kalulu to raise funds, but currently, only tentative interest from Bayern Munich has emerged for Bremer. Selling Kalulu, valued around €50 million, could provide significant capital, but Juventus are currently keen to retain the French defender.
