Juventus are preparing to release Arkadiusz Milik at the end of the current season, according to reports from TuttoSport. The decision, which was reportedly made months ago, stems from concerns over the Polish striker’s persistent physical issues.
Milik has struggled with injuries throughout his time in Turin, spending significant periods in the infirmary. Despite a brief appearance against Sassuolo which initially led to a contract extension until 2027, the club has lost confidence in his ability to maintain consistent fitness. The extension itself was reportedly a financial maneuver to spread his wages over two years and lessen the impact on the club's balance sheet.
Juventus coach Luciano Spalletti is currently assessing Milik’s fitness ahead of the upcoming derby match. The forward participated in a partial training session with the group, offering some encouraging signs, but it remains uncertain whether he will be included in the squad. However, the club’s long-term plans do not include Milik, regardless of any short-term contributions he may make.
Spalletti is also dealing with fitness concerns surrounding Khéphren Thuram, who is likely to miss the derby due to ongoing knee issues. Thuram has been undergoing treatment, but his lack of explosiveness has prompted the coaching staff to keep him training separately. Koopmeiners is expected to replace Thuram in midfield, though Spalletti could also consider shifting McKennie into a central role.
Juventus are currently navigating a crucial period in the season, and Spalletti has granted the squad a day of rest to alleviate tension. The club is hoping to have a fully fit attacking lineup for the derby, with Juan Cabal also returning from a muscle injury. However, the future of Milik is already determined, with a cordial separation expected at the conclusion of the campaign.
