Juventus are carefully considering whether to retain striker Dusan Vlahovic, with the decision representing a significant early challenge for newly appointed CEO Giovanni Carnevali, according to reports from Tuttosport. The club is evaluating the potential benefits and drawbacks of offering the Serbian international a new contract.
Vlahovic is seen as a potentially cost-effective option compared to other available forwards. If he agrees to a salary of €6.5 million per season, his annual impact on the club’s finances would be approximately €13 million, significantly less than alternatives like Randal Kolo Muani (€20 million) and Alexander Sorloth (€18 million). This financial advantage is a key consideration for Juventus, who might only need to acquire one additional attacker if Vlahovic remains.
Another factor in favour of keeping Vlahovic is his familiarity with the club and the pressures of playing for Juventus. Having already experienced the environment, he wouldn’t require a period of adjustment, a benefit for a team aiming for consistency. Manager Luciano Spalletti reportedly holds Vlahovic in high regard, having attempted to reintegrate him into the team last season and publicly supporting his renewal, and believes he has a clear tactical plan for the player. Vlahovic’s improved form towards the end of the season, finding the back of the net consistently, supports this view.
However, there are concerns surrounding a potential deal. A two-year contract, similar to previous negotiations led by former executive Comolli, would essentially be a short-term investment, with Vlahovic becoming a free agent again in June 2028. The club also acknowledges that the dressing room did not express significant disappointment at the prospect of his departure, suggesting a need for reintegration if he stays. Some friction occurred at the end of the previous campaign and would need addressing.
Furthermore, questions have been raised about Vlahovic’s physical condition following a lengthy injury recovery and a subsequent setback. While considered a fundamentally sound player, his extended time on the sidelines last season is a significant factor when considering a substantial investment. The club is weighing these concerns against the availability of alternative options in the transfer market.
The key question facing Carnevali is whether there are superior alternatives available. Juventus experienced difficulties in their search for a striker last summer, with the failed pursuit of Kolo Muani ultimately leading to the disappointing signing of Openda. Securing Vlahovic quickly and satisfying Spalletti could prove to be a pragmatic solution, but Carnevali is exploring all possibilities.
