Juventus youth signing Fortunato Krediet suffers serious knee injury
Juventus's promising winter signing, Dutch youth midfielder Fortunato Krediet, has suffered a serious knee injury that will end his season prematurely. The 14-year-old talent, who joined the club's academy from Feyenoord in the January transfer window, has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament and meniscus and is expected to be sidelined for at least six months.
Krediet had made an immediate positive impression since his arrival in Turin, scoring on his debut for the Under-16 side in a match against Modena on February 9. According to reports from Italy, his mature performances and strong personality for his age had prompted internal discussions about promoting him to the club's Under-17 squad before the injury struck. The setback is a significant blow for a player who was highly regarded in the Netherlands.
The young midfielder had been on the books of Feyenoord since the summer of 2024, having previously spent time in the youth systems of Zeeburgia, PSV Eindhoven, and Utrecht. He also earned three caps for the Netherlands Under-16 national team, highlighting his status as one of the country's brighter prospects. Juventus moved to secure his signature on a contract until June 2028, beating out significant competition for a player the Dutch club had tried to retain with a long-term offer.
His injury comes as Juventus continues a focused strategy of recruiting top European youth talent. Krediet is the latest in a line of Dutch prospects to join the Bianconeri, following the path of fellow 2010-born attacker Esad Deniz, who joined from Ajax and has since scored four goals in his first appearances for the Juventus Next Gen setup. While Deniz was considered more immediately ready for a higher level, Krediet was viewed as a modern, well-structured midfielder with strong defensive instincts and tactical discipline, possessing considerable room for growth.
The timing is particularly unfortunate as Krediet's new Under-16 team is dominating its league campaign, sitting 21 points clear at the top of the table. Club officials are now tasked with supporting the player through a lengthy rehabilitation process. The injury represents a challenging start to his Italian adventure, but Juventus's long-term investment indicates they are prepared to wait for his return to full fitness.
