Kaïl Boudache is set to join Olympique Lyonnais on a three-year professional contract, according to L’Équipe. The 19-year-old forward underwent his medical examination and will sign the deal on Monday, departing his boyhood club, Nice.
Boudache made a significant impact for Nice this season, scoring three goals in 19 appearances, including a crucial goal in the Ligue 1/Ligue 2 playoff victory against Saint-Étienne on Friday. He entered the match as a substitute for the injured Mohamed-Ali Cho and scored shortly after Zuriko Davitachvili’s penalty, helping secure Nice’s top-flight status.
Despite Nice initiating negotiations to retain Boudache and offer him a professional contract, the young player ultimately opted for a move to Lyon. The uncertainty surrounding Nice’s ownership, management, and head coach – with Claude Puel’s future at the club in doubt – reportedly influenced his decision. Boudache, a product of Nice’s academy, was seeking a clearer pathway to regular first-team football.
Boudache made his first-team debut for Nice in January and quickly became a promising talent, earning four starting appearances alongside his substitute cameos. He previously represented France at the under-17 level. Lyon will be hoping Boudache can continue his development and contribute to their attacking options as they look to rebuild their squad. His move offers a fresh start for the young forward in a new environment.
This transfer provides Lyon with a promising young player while addressing their need for attacking depth, and it allows Boudache to take the next step in his career with a club offering greater clarity and opportunity.
