Yassine Kechta has completed a permanent transfer to Spanish Segunda División side Leganés, signing a four-year contract with the club, according to L’Équipe. The move brings an end to Kechta’s time at Le Havre, the club where he began his professional career.
Kechta’s departure from Le Havre comes after he fell out of favour during the recently concluded season. Despite possessing notable technical ability, concerns over his physical strength and statistical output reportedly contributed to his reduced role in Normandy. He was a key figure in Le Havre’s promotion season, notably scoring twice in a crucial match against Strasbourg that helped secure their Ligue 1 status.
Leganés, currently owned by Blue Crow Sports Group, previously expressed interest in Kechta during the January transfer window, but a deal failed to materialize at that time. The Spanish club will be hoping Kechta can rediscover the form that made him a popular figure with Le Havre supporters, who often applauded him warmly even when more established players like André Ayew and Sofiane Boufal were on the pitch.
Kechta recently won a bronze medal with Morocco at the 2024 Olympic Games. At 24 years old, the midfielder is embarking on a new chapter in his career, with Leganés aiming for promotion to La Liga. This transfer provides Kechta with an opportunity to establish himself as a key player in a competitive league and potentially earn a return to one of Europe’s top five leagues in the future.
