Antonin Kinsky has signed a new five-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, with an option for a further season, after being named Roberto De Zerbi’s first-choice goalkeeper. The club confirmed the extension, which also includes a substantial pay rise, following a remarkable turnaround in the Czech international’s fortunes.
Kinsky endured a difficult start to his Tottenham career, arriving from Slavia Prague and initially struggling for playing time under previous manager Thomas Frank. He experienced a particularly low point when he was substituted after just 17 minutes during a Champions League defeat to Atletico Madrid under Igor Tudor. However, De Zerbi’s appointment in the spring proved pivotal.
With Guglielmo Vicario sidelined through injury, De Zerbi gave Kinsky an opportunity to impress, and the 23-year-old responded with a series of strong performances. According to TEAMtalk, these displays convinced De Zerbi that Kinsky is the goalkeeper the club should build around for the future. Tottenham had previously considered other options, including Brighton’s Bart Verbruggen and Burnley’s James Trafford, but De Zerbi’s preference has altered those plans.
The decision to commit to Kinsky allows Tottenham to avoid a potentially expensive outlay on a new goalkeeper, with the club now believing they can allocate funds to strengthening other areas of the squad. This shift in strategy has directly led to Kinsky’s new contract, viewed as a significant statement of intent from the club and a demonstration of De Zerbi’s growing influence on recruitment.
Kinsky’s improved status has subsequently led to Tottenham actively seeking a new club for Vicario. Sources indicate the club are working with intermediaries to facilitate a return to Serie A for the Italy international, with growing confidence a deal will be struck this summer. Experienced former Newcastle United goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has already been brought in to provide competition and cover. The goalkeeping situation at Tottenham appears to be nearing resolution, with Kinsky now firmly established as the number one.
