- FC Köln have received an offer for winger Said El Mala, according to managing director for sport Thomas Kessler. The club official confirmed the bid in an interview with Kicker, though he declined to reveal the identity of the interested party.
Kessler did state that he was open to discussing a potential transfer, adding that multiple clubs are monitoring the 19-year-old. Kicker reports that Brentford FC have recently emerged as potential suitors for El Mala, joining a growing list of interested teams.
Köln are reportedly seeking a fee of at least €40 million for the young attacker. Kessler emphasized the player’s statistical profile makes him a target for many of Europe’s top clubs, but cautioned that valuation and willingness to pay Köln’s asking price remain key factors.
El Mala enjoyed a breakthrough season in the Bundesliga, scoring 13 goals and providing five assists for Köln. His performances led to consideration for Germany’s World Cup squad, though he ultimately did not make the final selection. He signed a new contract with Köln in the summer of 2022, extending his stay until 2027, but his recent form has inevitably attracted attention from abroad.
Brentford have been active in the transfer market, seeking to bolster their attacking options following a solid Premier League campaign. A move for El Mala would represent a significant investment for the Bees, potentially providing a long-term solution on the wing. Should El Mala depart, Köln will need to reinvest the funds to maintain their competitiveness in the Bundesliga.
