Real Madrid have begun a significant overhaul of their squad following the return of Jose Mourinho as manager and the re-election of Florentino Perez as president. The club has already secured the signings of Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on a free transfer, Bernardo Silva also on a free from Manchester City, and Marc Cucurella from Chelsea for a reported £51.8 million.
Konate, 27, joins the Spanish giants after his time at Liverpool, signing a four-year contract. Silva, 31, arrives at the Bernabeu after leaving Manchester City, agreeing to a two-year deal for his first experience in La Liga. Cucurella, 27, returns to the Spanish capital having previously played for Getafe, and has signed a six-year contract with Madrid after completing his World Cup duties with Spain.
The acquisitions address key areas for Mourinho, particularly in midfield where Silva is expected to add quality. Cucurella’s arrival strengthens the left-back position, while Konate bolsters the defensive options. These moves signal Madrid’s intent to compete for major trophies after two seasons without silverware.
Alongside the incomings, Real Madrid have confirmed the departures of Dani Ceballos, Dani Carvajal, and David Alaba. Ceballos, 29, has been released after nine years at the club, expressing his gratitude for the opportunity but a desire for a new challenge. Carvajal, 34, has also departed after more than a decade of service, including a spell at Bayer Leverkusen, and six Champions League titles. Alaba, 33, leaves after five years, hampered by injuries during his time in Spain.
Further departures are anticipated, with Nico Paz expected to complete a permanent move to Como, and Gonzalo Garcia potentially making way to accommodate Endrick’s return from loan at Lyon. Madrid are also reportedly closing in on Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries as a replacement for Carvajal at right-back.
