AS Roma midfielder Manu Koné is attracting significant interest from Premier League clubs Arsenal and Chelsea, according to reports in Italy. The speculation comes after Koné’s recent performances for France at the World Cup, where he has impressed observers despite a disrupted season due to injury.
Former France international Patrick Vieira praised Koné in an interview with ITV, stating he believes the Roma player is currently the best central midfielder in France. Vieira highlighted Koné’s dynamism and ball-winning ability, suggesting he offers more going forward than fellow midfielders Aurélien Tchouameni and Adrien Rabiot. He specifically noted Koné’s tendency to break lines and drive play forward, contrasting it with Tchouameni’s perceived preference for safer passing options.
Koné has established himself as a key player for Roma under manager Daniele De Rossi, starting in all matches except the game against Senegal. The club are reportedly reluctant to sell their best midfielder, but the financial power of the Premier League could prove difficult to resist. The player himself has reportedly turned down an offer from Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with a move for Koné, though recent reports suggest Arsenal’s interest may be cooling with their focus shifting towards Declan Rice. Chelsea, however, are still said to be considering Koné as an alternative to Granit Xhaka, who they are also pursuing. No fee has been reported at this time, and Roma have yet to confirm any offers for the player. Koné joined Roma in 2023 and has quickly become a vital component of their midfield. His departure would leave a significant void in the team, but could provide the club with funds to strengthen other areas of the squad.
Koné’s continued strong performances will likely only increase his value and the level of competition for his signature, potentially leading to a bidding war between the interested clubs.
