Roma midfielder Manu Koné has addressed recent speculation linking him with a move to Inter, stating his current focus is solely on representing France at the Copa América. The 23-year-old acknowledged being aware of Inter’s interest, reacting with a smile when questioned about the rumours in Boston, but deferred any discussion of his future until after the tournament.
Koné joined Roma last summer from Borussia Mönchengladbach, quickly establishing himself as a key player in Daniele De Rossi’s midfield. He made 31 appearances across all competitions for the Giallorossi last season, contributing defensively and demonstrating his ability to progress the play from midfield. However, his season was hampered by two hamstring injuries, raising concerns about his fitness ahead of the Copa América.
Despite those injury concerns, Koné was included in the French squad for the tournament, a selection he described as a source of immense pride. He emphasized his commitment to being ready for coach Didier Deschamps and acknowledged the competition for places within the star-studded squad. Koné played in four of France’s six qualifying matches, proving his value to the team.
Looking ahead to France’s opening match against Senegal, Koné highlighted the African champions’ quality and the challenges they will pose. He also noted the importance of adapting to the hot weather conditions in the United States, stating the team is following a specific hydration protocol. Koné expressed confidence in his team’s ability to overcome these obstacles and secure a positive result. He also backed teammate Kylian Mbappé to handle any additional pressure, stating he believes the captain will be ready to perform.
Koné’s comments suggest he is not actively pursuing a transfer at this time, prioritizing his international ambitions. However, Inter’s interest is likely to persist, and his performances at the Copa América could significantly impact his market value and potential suitors. A strong showing could accelerate a move to a top club like Inter, while a disappointing tournament could complicate any transfer negotiations.
