Yukhym Konoplya is set to join Borussia Mönchengladbach after reaching a full agreement with the Bundesliga club, according to Sky Germany. The 26-year-old right-back will arrive on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract with Shakhtar Donetsk.
Transfer journalist Florian Plettenberg confirmed the agreement on Friday afternoon, adding that Konoplya will undergo a medical examination today. Should the medical prove successful, the Ukrainian international will sign a contract with the Foals that extends until June 2029.
Konoplya has spent the current season with Shakhtar Donetsk, featuring in 27 matches across all competitions and contributing with two goals and four assists. Despite ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the club continued to compete in European competitions, providing Konoplya with valuable exposure.
The player’s arrival at Borussia Mönchengladbach addresses a clear need for reinforcement in the right-back position. The Foals finished tenth in the Bundesliga this season, and manager Gerardo Seoane will be hoping Konoplya’s addition will improve the team’s defensive solidity and attacking options.
Konoplya was previously linked with a move to fellow Bundesliga side Werder Bremen in January, but a transfer failed to materialise. The Donetsk native has earned 26 caps for Ukraine, and brings international experience to the Borussia-Park. His ability to contribute both defensively and in the final third makes him a versatile addition to Seoane’s squad.
This move represents a significant opportunity for Konoplya to establish himself in one of Europe’s top leagues. Borussia Mönchengladbach will be hoping he can quickly adapt to the Bundesliga and become a key player in their pursuit of European qualification in the coming seasons.
