Tanguy Kouassi has joined Ligue 1 side Lille on a free transfer, the club confirmed on Tuesday. The defender has signed a two-year contract with Les Dogues, returning to France after six years abroad.
Kouassi’s move to Lille follows four seasons with Sevilla FC, where his playing time was limited to around sixty appearances across all competitions, hampered by several injury concerns. The 21-year-old initially rose to prominence at Paris Saint-Germain during the 2019-2020 season, showcasing considerable potential as a central defender.
He then moved to Bayern Munich with high expectations, but struggled to establish himself in the first team during his two years in Germany, making infrequent appearances for the Bundesliga champions. Despite representing France at youth levels, Kouassi has yet to earn a senior international cap.
Lille have been active in the transfer window, with Kouassi becoming their third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Turkish attacking midfielder Önel Basar and Swiss right-back Loun Srdanovic. The signings address defensive vulnerabilities following the departures of Chancel Mbemba and Aïssa Mandi at the end of last season. Kouassi will compete for a starting role in Paulo Fonseca’s squad, providing depth and potential in the heart of the Lille defence. This move presents an opportunity for Kouassi to reignite his career and demonstrate the promise he showed earlier in his development.
