Tanguy Kouassi has completed a move to Lille as a free agent, the club confirmed on Friday. The central defender joins on a two-year contract, returning to French football six years after departing Paris Saint-Germain.
Kouassi’s move to Lille follows four seasons with FC Sevilla, where his playing time was limited to around sixty appearances across all competitions, hampered by a series of injuries. He initially rose to prominence at PSG during the 2019-2020 season, showcasing considerable potential as a young defender.
Following his breakthrough campaign, Kouassi signed for Bayern Munich with high expectations, but he struggled to establish himself in the first team during his two years in Germany, making infrequent appearances. The move to Lille offers him a chance to reignite his career in a league he is familiar with.
Lille have been active in the transfer window, with Kouassi becoming their third signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Turkish attacking midfielder Önel Basar and Swiss right-back Loun Srdanovic. The signings address defensive needs created by the departures of Chancel Mbemba and Aïssa Mandi at the end of last season.
Kouassi, an international at youth level for France, will be hoping to secure a regular starting role at Lille and contribute to their ambitions in Ligue 1 and European competition. This transfer represents a fresh start for the 21-year-old, providing an opportunity to rebuild his career after a period of stagnation.
