Senegalese international Krépin Diatta is set to depart AS Monaco as a free agent when his contract expires on June 30, according to a report from L'Équipe. The 27-year-old winger, the only senior squad member not on loan whose deal is ending, is not expected to receive a renewal offer from the Principality club, bringing his five-year stay to a close.
Diatta arrived at Monaco from Club Brugge in the summer of 2021 and initially became an important element of the side, particularly under former manager Philippe Clement. His time on the French Riviera, however, has been marked by fluctuating form and a gradual reduction in his role. In search of more consistent playing time, Diatta underwent a positional conversion to right wing-back, a role he has also adopted with the Senegalese national team, with whom he is an Africa Cup of Nations champion.
This season, Diatta's status has diminished further, with the player occupying a complementary role. He has made just 18 Ligue 1 appearances, only ten of which were starts, and was initially left off Monaco's Champions League squad list at the start of the campaign. He was only temporarily reinstated to that list following an injury to Denis Zakaria. Since the turn of the year, Diatta has started only three matches across all competitions, with his most recent start coming in a 2-2 draw with Auxerre on April 19. He was subsequently omitted from the matchday squad for the following week's trip to Toulouse.
The decision not to extend Diatta's contract signals Monaco's intent to refresh their attacking options ahead of next season. For Diatta, a move as a free agent provides an opportunity to reset his club career after a period of stagnation. His versatility, having played as both a winger and a wing-back, along with his experience in European competition, is likely to attract interest from clubs across the continent. The coming weeks will be crucial as he seeks a new project for the next phase of his career, with his departure from the Stade Louis II now appearing a formality.
