Rasmus Kristensen has completed a permanent transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt to FC Midtjylland, the Bundesliga club confirmed on Tuesday. The Danish international is returning to the club where he began his professional career after two seasons in Germany.
Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krösche explained that Kristensen expressed a desire to move closer to his family. Krösche stated the club respected the player’s wishes and reached an agreement with Midtjylland to facilitate the transfer. He thanked Kristensen for his commitment during his time at the club and wished him well for the future.
Kristensen made 71 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt across all competitions, scoring nine goals and providing four assists. He arrived at the club in 2022 and quickly established himself as a regular in the starting lineup, contributing to their Europa League triumph in his first season. Prior to joining Frankfurt, Kristensen spent time with Ajax and Red Bull Salzburg, gaining experience in both the Dutch Eredivisie and the Austrian Bundesliga.
The player himself expressed gratitude for his time in Frankfurt, noting the warm welcome he received from the club and its supporters. Kristensen highlighted the significance of his son being born in Frankfurt, creating a lasting connection to the city. However, he emphasized his desire to be closer to his wider family and continue his career in Denmark. He also thanked the club’s management for their understanding and support in allowing him to pursue this opportunity.
FC Midtjylland will be hoping Kristensen can bring his experience and quality to their squad as they look to compete at the top of the Danish Superliga. The move represents a return to familiar surroundings for the 26-year-old, potentially offering stability and a renewed focus on his career. This transfer allows Frankfurt to reshape their squad ahead of the upcoming season, potentially seeking a replacement for Kristensen in the right-back position.
